Abstract: | In India, the Constitution of 1950 is aimed at securing to all its citizens: Justice, social, economic and political;Liberty of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship; Equality of status and of opportunity; and to promote among them all; Fraternity assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation; Ordinarily, the economic justice reigns supreme because without that social and political justice is not possible. The Indian society has historically been a web of conflicts characterized by its certain sections perpetually considered as unequal lower caste untouchables to bear discrimination as their naturally set faith. The unprotected workers is another feature that has been a pressing concern every now and then at the social and economic front. The founding fathers of the Indian Constitution intended to wipe out every tear from every eye and assure dignity to both rich and the poor. newline newlineTolstoy wrote: The abolition of slavery has gone on for a long time. Rome abolished slavery. America abolished it and we did but only the words were abolished, not the thing. What Tolstoy wrote about abolition of slavery in a large sense is true of abolishing many social evils in India and much is needed to place the constitutional morality in place. It is still a wish far from the reality though expressed explicitly in a book called Constitution. The fragrance is yet to reach the common man, the fruit is thus too far away. |
