Title: Studies on Antimicrobial Activities of Secondary Metabolites from Bacillus Pumilus

Abstract: The infection and food spoilage causing microorganism acquiring resistance to the newlinepresently use antimicrobials and preservatives. The control of infection and newlinespoilage of food caused by these microorganism demand high dose use of these newlineantimicrobial, consequently these led to adverse effect on host and consumer. The newlineproblem of antimicrobial resistance can be solved by using potent broad spectrum newlineantimicrobials from microorganism. The microorganism having ability to produce newlinenovel, broad spectrum antimicrobials can be present in extreme environmental newlinehabitat. The Bacillus pumilus is prolific producer of bioactive secondary newlinemetabolites, the extreme condition adapting Bacillus pumilus strain may be novel newlinebioactive compound producer. Therefore in the present investigation the bioactive newlinecompound producer Bacillus pumilus strain form extreme environment were newlineisolated and screened for antimicrobial activity against E. coli, Staphylococcus newlineaureus, Pseudomonas aeroginosa, Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus newlinethrough media optimization studies. The modified Sehgal and Gibbons media was newlineselected and used for production of bioactive secondary metabolites. The newlinepurification and characterization of bioactive compound were carried out by using newlineanalytical chemistry and spectroscopic technique. The partially characterized newlinepeptide and coumarin showed antimicrobial activity against infection and food newlinespoilage causing microorganism viz. E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas newlineaeruginosa, Vibrio harveyi and Vibrio alginolyticus like Bacitracin and newlineNovobiocin. The investigation revealed that Bacillus pumilus JX912980 have newlineability to produce bioactive secondary metabolites having nature peptide and newlinecoumarin may find application for controlling infection and food spoilage caused newlineby microorganism. newlineKey Word: Extreme environment, Secondary metabolites, Bacillus pumilus, newlineBioactive peptide and coumarin. newline
