dc.description.abstractnewline The whole work is categorised in to four phases: Phase-I includes the newlineextensive literature study, identification of objectives related with present study and newlineselection of study area for research work. Phase-II contains collection of samples in newlinepre and post monsoon seasons and evaluation of the various physico-chemical newlineparameters by adequate methods. newlinePhase-III involves study of the suitability of ground water samples for drinking newlinepurpose, graphical representation of spatial and seasonal variation of water quality newlineparameters, assessment and interpretation of the observed data by statistical newlinemethods, classification of the water quality of sampling sites in excellent, good, newlinepoor, very poor and unfit for drinking categories by evaluating water quality index newlineusing Weighted Arithmetic Index method and identification of principal pollutants newlineof the study area by Nemerow s Pollution Index. In Phase-IV an attempt has been newlinemade to develop a nanocomposite for removal of principal pollutants of the study newlinearea. The focused area of study is Bassi tehsil of district Jaipur, Rajasthan located newlineat 26096 N latitude and 75062 E longitude having the area 654.69 sq. kms. There are newlineno major surface water sources in the area however; main sources of drinking water newlineare open wells, hand pumps and bore wells. For assessment water samples from newline71 sampling sites of 50 villages of Bassi tehsil were collected in pre (April, 2013) newlineand post monsoon (September and October, 2013) seasons and analyzed for colour, newlineodour, pH, Total Alkalinity, Total Hardness, Calcium, Magnesium, Chloride, newlineNitrate, Fluoride, Total Dissolved Solids and Electrical Conductivity physicochemical newlineparameters. All water quality parameters have been taken into account of newlinemg/L, except colour, odour, pH and EC (and#956;mhos/cm). newlineThe obtained results of water quality parameters were compared with the newlinestandard values given by BIS, ICMR and WHO.
