dc.description.abstractnewlineThe application of composite polymeric materials for outdoor newlineinsulations has significantly increased in the recent years as a substitute of newlineconventional ceramic fillers However in the past 10 years the interest in the newlineaddition of nanofillers to the polymer matrix has grown and many research newlinepapers have been published in the area of electrical properties of polymer newlinenanocomposites Nanometric fillers compared with micronsized fillers have newlinelarge specific surface area and multi fold number of nanoparticles within the newlinesame volume fraction Further the interfacial effects dominate over the newlinevolume and depending on the polymer filler interaction the presence of such newlineinterfaces govern the macroscopic behaviour of the composite and hence the newlinedielectric properties The advent of nanotechnology leading to the availability newlineand commercialization of nanoparticles polymer nanocomposite with better newlinedielectric and electrical insulation properties is becoming a promising area of newlinefunctional materials for dielectrics and electrical insulation applications newlineEncouraging results have been obtained for dielectrics such as newlinePolyethylene silicone epoxy polyamide Polymethyl methacrylate and newlinePolyaniline when filled with nanometric fillers such as Al2O3 TiO2 SiO2 and newlinelayered silicate The enhancement in the physical properties like thermal newlineconductivity and thermal degradation or dielectric properties like resistivity newlinepermittivity dielectric strength tracking resistance and partial discharge newlineresistance characteristics are observed irrespective of the type of polymer newlinematerial base thermoplastic or thermoset newline newlineen_US
