Abstract: During the past two decades considerable effort has been taken to newlinedevelop and introduce alternative source of energy for the conventional newlinegasoline and diesel Environmental pollution and uncertainity in cost of newlinepetroleum products are the principal driving forces for this movement The newlinemajor pollutants from a diesel engine system are NOx Smoke particulate newlinematter and Soot Several alternative fuels were tried but all of them are carbon newlinebased fuels therefore net carbon based pollutants cannot be reduced One newlinealternative to carbon based fuels is hydrogen a noncarbon fuel can only newlinemeet zero emission vehicles standards in future Hydrogen can be newlinecommercially used as a fuel even though it has a number of technical and newlineeconomical barriers newline newline
