dc.description.abstractMetal matrix composites (MMCs) are widely used in Aerospace and Automotive newlineindustries owing to their outstanding specific stiffness, modulus and tensile strength newlinecoupled with abrasion resistance. Properties of MMCs strongly depend on the interfacial newlinephenomena between the metal matrix and ceramic reinforcement. The wettability of newlinereinforcement by liquid metal is the key factor to achieve high interface bonding strength. newlineUnfortunately, the wettability of ceramic particle reinforced with molten Aluminium newlinematrix is generally poor. However, several methods, including the modification of the newlinematrix composition, coating of the reinforcement and control of process parameters have newlinebeen widely used to improve the interfacial properties. Among these methods, electro less newlinenickel (EN) coating of the reinforcement, which is a simple, low-cost and an easy to use newlineprocess, has been successfully applied to prevent undesired interfacial reactions and newlinepromote the wettability through increasing the overall surface energy of the newlinereinforcement. However, electro less coated reinforcement enhanced the adhesion and newlinediffusibility between heavier particles, there is lack of information available on the newlineimprovement of interfacial strength and microhardness of coating process. Due to these newlinefacts an attempt will be made to obtain metalized reinforced composites that can be used newlinefor heavy machineries as an alternate to monolithic alloys. As per the literature survey, newlinethere is no concrete investigation has been made for obtaining electro less coated Al/TiC newlinecomposites with superior interfacial strength, mechanical strength, micro hardness, wear newlineand other chemical properties.
