Abstract: Vegetable oils are being experimented in diesel engines all over the world due to the growing concern for energy security and environmental degradation Mahua oil MO looks as a promising indigenous alternative fuel which has great potential and attraction especially in India to use in compression Ignition CI engines Despite close resemblance in properties use of MO in engines had disappointing results such as reduced performance higher smoke and carbon monoxide emissions MO operated engine could newlineeffectively run by using different high octane fuels eucalyptus oil ethanol and methanol under different methods such as blending and dual fuel mode of operation In this work MO was used as the main fuel and high octane fuels such as eucalyptus oil ethanol and methanol were used as supplementary fuels throughout this research work A single cylinder 4 stroke water cooled direct injection diesel engine with the maximum power newlineoutput of 3 7 kWat 1500 rpm was used for this research Initially baseline data for performance combustion and emission parameters were generated by operating the engine at variable loads I e 20 40 60 80 and 100 B P outputs using neat diesel ND newlineoil and neat mahua oil NMO as fuels During the second phase MO was blended with eucalyptus oil ethanol and methanol in different proportions by mass such as 5 10 15 20 25 and 30 to find the optimal blend ratio by stability and tested in the unmodified engine. newline newline
