Abstract: The interaction of electromagnetic radiation with matter is the newlineorigin of most of the processes observed in nature and this phenomenon has newlinealways aroused the curiosity of mankind The optical properties of a material newlineremain unchanged under ordinary circumstances whereas at higher intensities newlinethe optical properties become a function of the input light intensity The newlinedevelopment of science and technology facilitate us to access newer sources newlineof light as well as novel forms of matter enabling a deeper study of newlinelightmatter interaction Therefore it will be worth investigating the impact of newlinelight with novel forms of matter like nanoparticles for various photonic newlineapplications newlineIn a broad sense the thesis passes through the synthesis and newlinecharacterization of various kinds of nanoparticles with the ultimate aim of newlineinvestigating their nonlinear optical limiting behavior on the interaction of newlineelectromagnetic radiation Nanoparticles were prepared by chemical and newlinesolgel techniques The synthesized particles were characterized with different newlinetechniques such as powder Xray diffraction XRD Scanning Electron newlineMicroscopy SEM UVvis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy UVDRS newlineTransmission electron microscopy TEM Fourier transform infrared newlineFTIR Raman Fluorescence and excited state kinetics techniques to newlineanalyze the physicochemical properties of the prepared nanoparticles Later newlinethe focus of the study shifts to the nonlinear absorption studies investigated newlineusing 7 ns laser pulses in an automated zscan set up For illustration of the newlineabove work the thesis has been divided into eight chapters and reports the newlineobtained results from the above systematic studies carried out newlineTitania TiO Hydroxyapatite HA Zirconia ZrO newlinenanoparticles were successfully synthesized and the products were coated newlinewith silica by means of a seeded polymerization technique based on stober newlinemethod for a coating time of 24 hrs to obtain well defined TiOSiO newlineHASiO and ZrOSiO core shell nanostructures Evidence from XRD newlineand FTIR results show that SiO is homogenously coated on the su
