Abstract: The purpose of the present study is to estimate the technical efficiency using mathematical newlinemodels, Stochastic Frontier Models (SFM) and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). Under Stochastic newlineFrontier models-Normal-Gamma, Normal-Truncated normal and Normal-Rayleigh Stochastic newlineProduction Frontier Models (NGSPFM, NTSPFM and NRSPFM) are derived for the Technical newlineEfficiency measurement. . In order to compare and to identify best mathematical model two more newlinemodels Normal-Gamma Bayesian Stochastic Production Frontier Model (NGBSPFM) under the newlinecategory of Stochastic Frontier Models (SFM) and non-parametric model Data Envelopment Analysis newline(DEA) are taken. So, totally five mathematical models namely NGSPFM, NTSPFM, NRSPFM, newlineNGBSPFM and DEA are considered in this study. As an application to these models a case study has newlinebeen considered from agricultural sector. A primary data for crop the year 2015-16 was collected newlinefrom 300 paddy farmers of Thiruvarur District in Tamil Nadu, India. The mean technical efficiency of newlinethe respective models are 67% ,65%,55%,81%,66%,These mean technical efficiencies showing that newlinethe sampled farmers in the study area had realized their technical abilities of 67% newline,65%,55%,81%,66%, and remaining 33%,35%,45%,34%,19% couldn t realize their abilities for newlineNGSPFM, NTSPFM, NRSPFM, NGBSPFM and DEA respectively. On comparing the four newlineparametric models used in this study using AIC and BIC tests, the results showed that Normal-Gamma newlineBayesian Stochastic Production Frontier Model is more plausible than other models. By considering newlinethe five inputs used in this study, Farm Yard Manure (FYM) and chemical fertilizers are the most newlineimportant factors for increasing the efficiency level of paddy farmers and also from the seven socioeconomic newlinevariables sex of the farmer, education and credit are the most important factors for newlineincreasing the technical efficiency.
