dc.description.abstractIn all high power variable speed voltagefed converters large DC newlinefilter capacitors are used to maintain a stiff DC link voltage across the input newlineof frequency converter fed via rectifier from threephase input AC supply to newlinedecouple the effects of inductance from the DC voltage source to the power newlinebridge and also provide a low impedance path for the ripple current newlineassociated with hard switching of frequency converters newlineWhen a capacitor bank is initially connected to a voltage source a newlinetransient charging inrush current will flow Inrush current is a maximum newlineinstantaneous input current drawn by an electrical device when itand#8223;s first newlineturned on Power converters often have inrush currents much higher than newlinetheir steady state currents due to the charging current of the input capacitors newlineTo overcome this limitation precharging circuits are implemented in newlineconverters which use high DC link capacitors The main objective of a precharging newlinecircuit is to charge the capacitor newline newline
