Abstract: Reading a work of art is an opportunity as well as an experience to imaginatively probe into human psyche Manju Kapurs novels do provide such a learning platform to come to terms with various relationships and their impact on an individual male or female in a given society A study under the title The dialectics of passion and pragmatism in the novels of Manju Kapur is an attempt to throw light on the crisscross pattern of human life which oscillates between tradition and newlinemodernity desire and wisdom emancipation and enlightenment deception and discovery Using a lot of approaches such as cultural feministic psychological and social the researcher has analysed and illustrated through textual evidence that the newlinefemale self initially goes in search of an exclusive space only to understand that newlinequestionable sentiments shopping allowance educational status career aspirations newlineand gender identity need to be redefined only in the context provided to an individual newlineThe study also focuses on a series of findings and upholds that one has to learn newlineunlearn and relearn a few things in order to feel at ease The chapterisation of the newlinestudy will help the readers to a very great extent in this process The study also points newlineout scope for further studies on Manju Kapur
