Abstract: Among different life forms, insects were reported to have appeared on Earth more newlinethan 400 million years ago and have undergone several metamorphoses, evolving into the remarkable range of different forms representing thirty-one orders today. It is estimated that about 5 to 23 million insect species occur in the world, of which about a million forms of newlineinsects have been described across the world. In India, about 62000 species have been described so far. Many of these species affect human life, some as beneficial, while others damaging our crops or by transmitting both crop and human diseases and only a few thousand of them have been recognized and identified through the efforts of naturalists and newlinesystematists primarily in the last two centuries.
