Abstract: Cloud computing plays a vital role in the field of distributed computing. The main objective of the cloud computing is to make use of resources effectively in order to reduce the cost of an enterprise. Cloud users face difficulties while they are posting and managing data over cloud environment. Since the posted data is being with the service provider s premises, confidentiality of data and associated issues emerge as a major threat for the data owners. newline newlineIn this thesis, the issues related to security and confidentiality have been focused in the federated cloud environment and a security framework based on credential service namely, One-time-password (OTP) is advocated in our work. The One Time Password has been generated using a Trusted Third Party (TTP), the key is issued to the cloud user as well as the cloud service provider. Besides, a novel algorithm called, vertical partitioning algorithm has been presented to protect the data in an efficient manner. The algorithm has been implemented in a java platform. newline newlineBy applying the vertical partitioning algorithm, datasets in the cloud has been splitted into desired number of vertical partitions and distributed across different data centre. By this the proposed model and data displacement strategies, the security of the data stored in the cloud datacenter has been increased sufficiently. The experimental setup and investigations of the results show that the proposed model scores efficiency while comparing the existing algorithms. newline newline
