Abstract: The Internet consists of many kinds of networks such as wired networks, wireless networks, mobile networks, etc. There are various services offered by the Internet. Providing Quality of Service (QoS) is a great challenge as the Internet is a complex system. The mobile networks support two kinds of mobility such as host mobility and network mobility. The protocols that support the host mobility and network mobility are Mobile Internet Protocol version 6 (MIPv6) and Network MObility Basic Support Protocol (NEMO BSP), respectively. Though MIPv6 supports host mobility, several scenarios (for example, train, bus, car, etc.,) exist today that demand the support for the movement of a complete network called NEMO. The NEMO BSP introduces several advantages such as reduced signaling, increased manageability, reduced power consumption and conservation of bandwidth when compared to MIPv6 to be used in the mobile platforms. The NEMO BSP also has a number of limitations like longer route, bi-directional tunneling, increased packet size, fragmentation, bottleneck in the home link, etc. This necessitates the need for Route Optimization (RO) schemes. Though RO schemes are beneficial, they bring new issues like signaling overflow that leads to increased packet delay, processing overload, high jitter, etc. The above limitations severely affect the Quality of Service (QoS) in mobile networks. The proposed research work concentrates on addressing the issues related to the QoS parameters such as delay, hop, bandwidth and jitter. By addressing these issues, the QoS in mobile networks is enhanced. First, delay parameter is considered to enhance QoS in mobile networks. In relation to this, a Delay-Sensitive Routing for NEMO (DSRNEMO) is proposed to enhance the QoS by reducing the delay needed for the fallback procedure in establishing the RO. To establish RO, the nodes must have RO schemes.
