Abstract: Over the past ten years, the Indian insurance market has recorded spectacular growth on account of governmental promotional measures, new products, improved sales channel, increased awareness and importance of insurance coverage and savings. IRDA (Insurance Regulation and Development Authority) Reports reveals that life insurance new business premium increasing on yearly figures. Indian Insurance market has remains relatively insulated from the global financial crisis due to heavy government regulation and stringent guidelines of IRDA for investment funds of insurer. The country now hosts 24 licensed Life Insurance companies and 27 General Insurance companies registered with the IRDA. newlineTo encourage further investment in the insurance industry, the Indian government approved maximum foreign shareholding limits for both life and non-life insurers from 26 percent limit up to 49 percent. Some of the leading multinational insurance companies are represented in India, including Prudential Plc, Allianz, AXA, Sun life etc. Several local India insurers have also established affiliations with foreign insurers.
