Abstract: The all round advancement in the field of scientific and technological innovations, socio economic upheaval, population growth, easy access to scientific knowledge, fast communication and better transport facilities have definitely transformed the shape of the society and the modus operandi of the commission of modern day sophisticated crimes. In a country like India, where a considerable chunk of population is still uneducated and the social setup is also heterogeneous, the existence of strained police-public relations, lengthy and complicated procedural wrangles, rampant poverty and mass unemployment, the heavy role of money and muscle power, the eye witnesses often turns hostile, for one reason or the other, thus resulting in the weakening of the prosecution case consequently the benefit of doubt easily goes to the criminals............ newline
