Abstract: In the present paper, an attempt is made to examine the causal relationship between consumption and production of various energy variables such as coal, petroleum, electricity and gross domestic product (GDP) with carbon dioxide emissions using Granger Causality Method. Empirical findings reveal that there is a unidirectional causality between various energy variables, economic variables and carbon dioxide emissions. The result reveals that sufficient steps should be required to switch over clean efficient technologies for production of energy.
