Abstract: The threat of radiological accidents or nuclear terrorism is of concern because many people can be exposed to radiation at a wide range of doses Unplanned events such as the nuclear power plant accident takes place since 1986 Chernobyl Goiania Fukushima etc In 2010 an orphaned 60Co source from a scrap yard in Mayapuri New Delhi India led to the radiation exposure related death of one individual and exposure of seven others A tool is required to estimate the unknown absorbed dose or segregate the exposed individuals for medical management Thus in the event of large scale radiation exposure in population the number of suspected persons will be very high and no single laboratory can manage the biodosimetry service Hence various biodosimetry laboratories are investigating alternate methods for dose assessment and also suitable methods for triage biodosimetry Recent developments in the micronucleus assay have shown potential for such applications Dose response curve was constructed for X and and#947; rays and studied the effect of delayed blood sampling for dosimetry applications Further genetic factors and mechanism of MN formation also carried out Finally the CBMN assay was automated by using Metafer for the triage applications during mass casualty events
