Abstract: Aim of study: To evaluate some selected plants isolates for possible antioxidant activity and their role against reactive oxygen species mediated oxidative stress in biological system. Materials and methods: In vitro free radical scavenging activities of the selected natural products were carried out by DPPH, superoxide, hydroxyl and nitric oxide radical assay methods. In vivo anti-oxidant activity was conducted against CCl4, Aluminium, Sodium fluoride and Streptozotocin induced oxidative stress models. Anti-allergic activity and neuroprotective activity of the compounds were carried out in mast cell mediated allergic and global cerebral ischemia models in rats. Anti-osteoporosis activity was performed by overrecitamized rats. Anticancer activity was conducted against EAC and human cancer cell lines. In all the experiments anti-oxidant enzyme levels, biochemical estimation and histopathological studies were carried out. Results: It was observed that seven out of fourteen compounds selected, showed potential free radical scavenging activity in in vitro systems. In the experiments conducted in in vivo, the antioxidant activity was significantly decreased in the lipid peroxidation (LPO) and increased antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase, catalase and reduced glutathione, total thiols with the compounds F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, C1,T1 and S1 as compared to respective control against CCL4, AlF4, NaF and STZ. The compounds also showed neuroprotection against global ischemia /reperfusion injury in brain. These compounds also exhibited significant mast cell stabilization and inhibited (plt0.001) compound 48/80 induced systemic anaphylaxis reactions, antiprurities (plt0.001) and reduced the histamine release in mast mediated allergy models. The tested plant constituents also showed potent anti-osteoporosis activity in overriectamizied rat model. The compounds F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, F8, F9, F10, F11, C1, and T2 revealed the in vitro anti-cancer activity against different cancer cell lines.
