Title: Study of Effectiveness of Facilitative Development Programme for Student Teachers Through Constructivist Approach

Abstract: The teacher need to assume his/her responsibility and transform in the new paradigm of education. He/she needs to be a facilitator of students learning endeavors to enable them to the creators of their knowledge. The teacher for the new era needs to be a facilitative teacher to promote enquiry, reflection, experimentation as well as problem solving and creativity among the learners. Hence professional development of teacher needs to be upheld through teacher education programmes. The review of researches revealed that there are no such specific researches yet regarding the facilitative development of teachers through teacher education programmes. Hence this research holds unique significance in designing, developing, deploying and experimenting facilitative development programme for student teachers. newlineConstructivist approach in education has its prime significance in the era of learner centered approach. This constructivist approach to education demands the role of the teacher as a facilitator. Hence the facilitative teacher development is consistent with the constructivist approach to education. Therefore, the facilitative development programme is deployed through constructivist approach in this research. newlineThis research has tried to find out the scope for facilitative teacher development in the present B. Ed. curriculum. This has been done with reference to National Curriculum Framework for Teacher Education (NCFTE) 2009. The results reveal that there is inadequate scope for the facilitative development of student teachers in present B. Ed. curriculum. Hence, the facilitative development programme was designed on its basis and its effectiveness was examined. Tahe results reveal that the facilitative development newlinexxx newlineprogramme for student teachers through constructivist approach has proved to be highly effective. The opinion of student teachers regarding the programme is quite positive and appreciating. They have stressed the necessity of this programme as a part of the teacher education programme. Even the expert observers of the peer lessons by student teachers as a part of this programme found evidences of the effectiveness of this programme in the peer lessons of the student teachers. Suggestions have been proposed to the stakeholders of B. Ed. course like Government, teacher educators and student teachers as well. The need to introduce facilitative development programme as an integral component of B. Ed. curriculum has been highlighted. newlineAbove all this research claims to be instrumental in proposing key aspects and characteristics of a facilitative teacher.
