Abstract: Empowerment of women is a debatable subject. At earlier stage they were receiving equal status newlinealong with men. But they had met little difficulties and problems during the epic and post-Vedic newlineages. Most of the time, they were treated as slaves. From early 20th century (national movement) newlinewomen statuses have been modified gradually and slowly. In addition to that, they mentioned the newlineBritish people. After the independence of India, the national leaders and constitutional makers newlinestrongly demand equal position of women with men in the society. At present, one could see the newlinewomen accommodated the respectable positions in all walks of various fields. Yet, they have not newlineset absolutely free, and they have some harassment and discrimination of the society. Only a few newlineof women have been able to show their potentialities. Hence, each and every one should be careful newlineto enhance the women statuses. newlineThis is to be noticed that today, there are different Acts and Schemes of the state government and newlinecentral government to empower the women. But in India women are marginalized and newlinediscriminated at each and every level of the society whether it could be political participation, newlinesocial participation, access to education, economic participation and also reproductive healthcare. newlineWomen are identified to be socially and economically very poor all over the country. Very few newlinewomen are participated in social services and other activities. So, they are in need of economic newlinepower to stand on their own legs on with men. On the other hand, it has been observed keenly that newlinewomen are identified to be less literate than that of men. With respect to 2001 census, the literacy newlinerate among men in India is identified to be 76% whereas it is only 54% among women, whereas newlineas per census 2011 literacy among men is 82.14% and women 65.46%. Hence, improving newlineeducation among women is of important in empowering them. It is observed that some of the newlinewomen are too weak to participate and work. They receive less food but work more. Thus, in the newlinepoint of view, regarding health, women folk who are to be weaker are to be formed stronger. The newlinemajor problem is that workplace harassment of women. There are several cases of rape, dowry newlineharassment, kidnapping of girl, and so on. For such reasons, they need empowerment in each and newlineeverything to protect them and to secure their dignity and purity (Hazarika, 2011). newline
