Abstract: Power systems are large and complex with a transmission system in the form of grid The transmission system connects the generating stations and transports power to the regional distribution networks over a large geographical spread Transfer of electric energy from the source of generation to the customer via the transmission and distribution networks newlineis accompanied by losses The majority of these losses occur on the distribution system It is widely recognized that placement of shunt capacitors on the distribution system can lead to a significant reduction of power loss in the distribution systems and is very essential to improve the overall efficiency of power delivery In the present research the problem of Radial Distribution System reconfiguration is carried out and it requires the determination of a combination of branches one from each loop to be switched out such that the resulting configuration of the RDS has the maximum loadability Within the framework of the optimization techniques multiple objectives are dealt using Genetic Algorithm and such that voltage improvement and reduction of power losses in the distribution systems coexist The objective of the capacitor placement problem is to determine the locations and sizes of the capacitors resulting in minimization of power loss and annual savings Although some of the reported methods to solve the capacitor allocation problems are efficient their efficacy relies entirely on the goodness of the data used and does not compensate for lack any of commonly occurring uncertainty in the data To overcome this limitation the present work integrates heuristics judgments into the capacitor allocation optimization process along with the Neural Network furthermore the solution obtained from the proposed algorithm is adaptive and can quickly assess the newlinefeasibility of the distribution system newline
