Abstract: Global warming is one of the major problems that are faced by the entire world. The major factor that contributes to global warming is the use of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) in automobiles because it expels hazardous green house gases into the atmosphere. In spite of many efforts made by the Government to regulate the emission of these hazardous pollutants, the use of internal combustion engines continues to be the major cause for environmental pollution. Hence, the entire world is now moving towards Electric Vehicles (EV) and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) which use electric motors for driving the wheels of automobiles. These categories of vehicles have reduced environmental pollution and also have less dependency on fossil fuels. EV uses electric power from the battery as the major source of power. Even though EVs and HEVs are considered to be more energyefficient than the traditional combustion counterparts, there is always a necessity for improvement. Optimization of power consumption without compromising the overall performance is a constant challenge that entire automotive sector faces as EVs and HEVs accelerate into the future. Electronic Control Units (ECUs) are embedded systems that are used in automobiles to monitor and control one or more electronic subsystems of vehicles. A typical automotive ECU consists of a processing element, usually a microcontroller with software embedded into it, sensors for monitoring vehicle parameters, actuators for controlling, and communication links for the information exchange with other ECUs or with the external systems. Ever increasing demand for comfort and convenience increases the requirement for the use of large number of ECUs with high performance multicore processors in vehicles. newline
