Abstract: Grid failures are becoming frequent in India due to load demand mismatch. The supply and newlinedemand mismatch are increasing day by day. newlineSystem disturbance at 220 kV Navsari S/S in GETCO system on 14-01-2006 On 14.01.2006 at newline15:20 hrs., 220kV Navsari Vav line tripped on over-current R-ph. protection relay at Navsari newlineend and 30(A-B), 30G, 30H and 186A and 186B protection relay at remote Vav end. With this newlinetripping 220kV Navsari Kawas ckt # 1 and 2; 220kV Navsari Ambheta line; 220kV Navsari newlineBhilad line and 220kV Navsari Nashik ckt # 1 also tripped from remote end. Also, there have newlinebeen major grid disturbances on the 30th and the 31st July 2012 which have affected large parts newlineof the Indian Electricity Grids. newlineDue to high load and failure of monsoon, Northern Region was drawing a large quantum of newlinepower from neighboring Western and Eastern Grids whereas due to rains in Western Region newlinedemand was less and it was under drawing. This situation led to a much-skewed load generation newlinebalance among the regions. A large quantum of power was flowing from the Western Grid to the newlineNorthern Grid directly as well as through the Eastern Grid and the system was under stress. newlineA disturbance occurred in the Northern India electricity grid at 02:33 hours of 30th July 2012 newlineleading to a blackout in nearly the entire Northern region covering all the 8 States i.e., the States newlineof Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu newlineand Kashmir as well as the Union Territory of Chandigarh.1 newlineGrid management in India is carried out on regional basis. There are five regions namely newlineNorthern, Eastern, Western, North-eastern and Southern. Out of these first four regions were newlineinterconnected synchronously. On 31/12/2013 the southern grid was connected synchronously newlinewith rest all regions and India has achieved One nation One grid One frequency mission. LDC newlinecoordinates generation and distribution. Generating stations and distribution companies are newlinerequired to follow schedule to ensure discipline of grid. There are penalties for deviating from newlinelimits of scheduled generation and demand. One of the major problems is the supply and demand mismatch. System frequency is newlinethe major indication of equilibrium in the system. newlineIn this research novel approach is proposed for minimization of UI charges to avoid penalty paid newlineby state utility and new ABT meter design is proposed having load management scheme to newlinecontrol frequency deviation considering prioritization of loads. Data is collected from actual newlinesystem feeders and algorithm implemented in JAVA client server communication. newlineThe algorithm for load prioritization is implemented in server program using Java Servlets for newlineone sample feeder data. Later the algorithm for load prioritization is enhanced to deploy and newlineinstantiate server-side Java based program on Amazon Web Service cloud to compute all the newlinecollected sample feeder data and the response is sent across to the Client. newlineProposed circuit and proposed algorithm give fast load management and saves Unscheduled newlineInterchange charges which is third component of ABT tariff. Also, it will replace manual way of newlineload shedding. Use of GSM and mobile computing allows easy communication among utilities newlineand from utility to consumer. Engineer gets immediate intimation of low frequency on his cell newlinephone and curtailment of load can be done automatically. In a nutshell, the new method of newlinereducing UI charges would improve stability and minimize grid disturbance of the system. Also, newlineit will minimize human efforts by making system smarter. newline
