Abstract: Cyclic ring containing at least one heteroatom that element is not a carbon, newlinethese are known as heterocyclic compounds. These are further classified on the basis of newlinesize of ring, presence of different heteroatom such as nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur etc. In newlinegeneral, sixty five percent of organic compounds are found to be heterocyclic. There is newlinegrowing interest for fused heterocyclic compounds in the pharmacological potential of newlinenatural product. Nitrogen and oxygen containing heterocyclic compounds, e.g. newlinealkaloids, amides nucleosides/nucleotides, are widely distributed in nature and play a newlinevital role in the metabolism of all living cells. However, derivatives of Xanthenes, newlineFuranoquinolines, Pyrazolopyranopyrimidines, Benzimidazole and Quinoxalines newlineplayed a crucial role in the history of heterocyclic chemistry and been used extensively newlineas important pharmacophores and synthons in the field of organic chemistry and drug newlinedesigning. Owing to their versatile chemotherapeutic importance, a significant amount newlineof research effort has been focused on these nuclei. newlineNow a days, heterogeneous catalytic system have received considerable importance in newlineorganic synthesis because of easy handling, simple work-up procedure, enhanced newlinereaction rate, greater selectivity and reusability of catalyst. newlineChapter 1: Introduction and biological importance of fused Heterocycles. newlineFirst chapter deals with history, general introduction and biological activity of newlineheterocyclic compounds. Here, we have studied specific biologically active fused newlineheterocycles containing nitrogen and oxygen as a heteroatom. The fused heterocycles newlinewhich selected for study are, Xanthenes, Furanoquinolines, newlinePyrazolopyranopyrimidines, Benzimidazoles and Quinoxalines. newline
