Abstract: Todays refrigeration and airconditioning industries are moving newlinetowards chlorine free working fluids as chlorine is one of the important newlinecausative agent for the ozone layer depletion R22 the generally accepted and newlinemore suitable refrigerant for airconditioners has to be phased out by 2030 in newlinedeveloped countries and by 2040 in developing countries because of its Ozone newlineDepleting Potential ODP Millions of airconditioners all over the world newlineoperating with R22 have to be retrofitted suitably in the event of the above newlinephase out Many refrigerants have been reported as alternatives to R22 The newlinerecommended alternatives are mainly classified under HFC and HC refrigerants newlineand they have their own drawbacks HC is highly flammable and considering newlinethe safety norms in many countries it cannot be charged above a certain newlinequantity in domestic appliances Thus HC cannot be considered as the sole newlinerefrigerant in airconditioners HFCs are used with polyolester POE oil only as newlineit is immiscible with the conventional mineral oil newline
