Occupational stress social support and job satisfaction as predictors of well being of elementary school teachers

Abstract

The present study has examined and evaluated occupational stress, social support and job satisfaction as predictors of well being of elementary school teachers. A sample of 500 elementary school teachers from ferozepur, Moga and Sri Muktsar Sahib districts of Malwa region of Punjab was taken. Well-being scale (by Singh and Gupta), Occupational Stress Scale (by Sharma and Kaur), Social Support Scale (Consrtucted by the investigator) and job Satisfaction Scale (by Dixit) were employed for data collection. Karl pearson s coefficient of correlation and step up regression technique, R along with R2 and F-ratio were worked out to draw inferences. The results of the study revealed a positive and significant relationship between well being and social support as well as between well being and Job satisfaction. A significant negative relationship was found between well- being and Occupational Stress. Furthermore, the result of the study also pinpoint the fact that well being can best be predicted through an interactive effect of occupational stress, social support and job satisfaction in comparison to their independent effects. newline
