Title: Geomodelling for Dam Foundation Stratum

Abstract: Within any construction project, the most significant factor in controlling the cost and newlinefeasibility is the subsurface ground conditions. In water resources project, in detailed newlinegeological and geotechnical investigations needs to be carried out for confirmation of newlineembankment and foundation conditions. The data collected from geotechnical, newlinegeophysical investigations (electrical resistivity) was used for generating geotechnical newlinedatabase. The comprehensive geological and geotechnical models (Geomodels) were newlinedeveloped with the generated geodatabase using RockWorks software through newlinegeostatistical interpolation. The geomodels were validated statistically and by optical newlinecorrelation. The generated geomodels were for Core Recovery, Rock Quality Designation newline(RQD), Percolation (Lugeon) values, Fracture Data, Lithology and Field Resistivity. Using newlinethese geomodels developed for the study area Bhama Askhed Irrigation Project were used newlineto narrow down the geologically problematic locations with the particular unsuitable trend. newlineThe cross sections of created thematic and boolean models were checked for geological newlinesuitability based on site characterization along the alignments. The location of dam newlineappurtenant structures were also critically analysed to suggest the location with the least newlinepossible unfavourable condition. In addition, the actual selected alignment is critically newlineexamined for geological suitability. newlineThe geomodel analysis has revealed the geological structure of the foundation stratum; newlineunfavourable lithology, weak zones, location and extend of remedial grouting required. The newlinespatial locations of required parameters were expressed as chainage and elevations along newlinethe dam alignment. Comparison of modelling results with the observed site investigation newlinedata and verification with Energy Dissipating Assembly (EDA) failure causes established newlineby Central Water and Power Research Station Pune, (CWPRS) for the Bhama Askhed newlineDam project have indicated the application of the geomodels for the dam foundation related newlinecritical project d
