Abstract: Due to the deregulation of electric power supply to the consumers heavy line flows and unwanted loop flows occur It tend to incur greater losses and to threaten stability and security ultimately making certain generations economically undesirable Hence there is an interest in better utilization of available capacities in a transmission network by installation of introduction of Flexible Alternating Current Transmission systems devices The introduction of FACTS devices in a power system network controls the power flows in the network which reduce the flows in heavily loaded lines resulting in increases loadability low system loss improve the stability and reliability of the network reduce the cost of production and improve the system performance considerably It is important to ascertain the FACTS devices location in the power system network because of their considerable costs The optimal location of FACTS devices has increasingly been drawing more attention today Hence this thesis work focuses on the analysis of location of FACTS devices in order to minimize the system losses
