Abstract: newlineRetail segment is one of the most important sectors for any country from its economic strength perspective. Indian retail industry is also no exception to same. Over period of time India has transitioned from various phases of growth in almost all sector and hence there were lot of changes occurred in retail segment. From barter system in ancient India it has transitioned from unorganized retail, organized retail and now e-commerce is booming and there is already entry of m-commerce which is extension of e-commerce. Now with the strong wave of e-commerce and other factors like digital India initiative, mobile market growth etc. there is possibility of greater impact on organized retail. newlineIn last twenty years, Indian retail market has seen drastic changes. Looking at the potential size of market top three business houses also ventured in retail market with Reliance Fresh, Star Bazar, More along with major players like Future group with Big bazar and DMart etc. venturing in retail sector, competing for some share of business from huge population of India. They have setup their outlets in huge malls primarily in metro cities and urban areas. The focus is to reduce the levels in distribution cycle by reaching close to manufacturer and providing many products under one roof at discounted rates. Also along with these big groups, manufacturers have started opening their own outlets in big cities. All these are part of Organized retails. With opening of Indian economy, India increased foreign investment by changing foreign direct investment (FDI) policy. Key International players like Wal-Mart aim to enter India to share this larger potential retail segment. newlineCurrent trend in India is that of E-business and E-commerce which has started gradually shifting on to M-commerce.
