dc.description.abstractAll over the world, metal matrix composites (MMC s) are under research to replace conventional materials for a large number of structural applications such as aerospace, transportation and defence industries. The present research work investigates the synthesis, characterization, and corrosion behavior of AA6063 composites with the inclusion of TiC particles with various weight percentages (3, 6, 9 and 12). Stir casting process has been used to prepare the metal matrix composites. The homogeneous dispersion of TiC particles in the composites was revealed from the scanning electron microscopy studies. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy studies were conducted to ensure the presence of reinforcement particles in the matrix. Also mechanical, corrosion and wear properties of the produced composites newlinewere evaluated. The addition of TiC particles enhances the density, hardness, tensile, compressive, impact, flexural, and shear strength compared to AA6063 matrix material and further these properties were improved. The corrosion of the metal matrix composites was evaluated by potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and accelerated corrosion techniques. The AA6063-TiC composite samples have similar anodic polarization curves and show passivation potentials, but the base alloy exhibits less susceptibility to pitting corrosion in 3.5 wt. % NaCl solution. The accelerated corrosion tests of AA6063-TiC composites in newline3.5 wt. % NaCl aqueous solution at room temperature, the AA6063-TiC composites have better corrosion resistance than the AA6063 matrix. Increasing the weight percentage of the TiC particulates increased the corrosion resistance of the AA6063-TiC composites.
