Abstract: The increase in industrial activities has accentuated environmental newlinepollution problems causing the deterioration of several ecosystems with the newlineaccumulation of many pollutants such as toxic metals Heavy metals include newlinechromium lead copper zinc cadmium nickel manganese etc which are newlinenon biodegradable toxic pollutants that affect public health and economy newlineThe inputs of these trace metals into the ecosystem are largely the result of newlinemining operations refining ores sludge disposal fly ash from incinerators newlineprocessing of radioactive materials metal plating or manufacture of electrical newlineequipment paints alloys batteries pesticides and preservatives Heavy metal newlineconcentrations beyond permissible levels are hazardous due to their sorption newlinein the living system These heavy metals accumulate in organisms causing newlinenumerous diseases and disorders The solubility and mobility of heavy metals newlinecan cause significant damage to the environment by contaminating the soil newlineand the ground water Thus their high toxicity and the greater demands of newlinenew environmental legislation have prompted the development of new newlinetechnologies to treat water bodies contaminated with this type of heavy newlinemetals newline newline
