Information Literacy Skills among Research Scholars and Faculty Members of Engineering College Libraries in Coastal Karnataka A Study

Abstract

The present society called information society, where decisions are made based on quality of information. The amount of information available today is increasing rapidly. The information revolution has impelled the academic world with abundant publications. This information explosion is primarily due to the development of computers and communication technologies. In order to access and use different types of sources effectively, people must be information literate. This information effectand#8223; has made the academic world to think about its information users in making them information literatesand#8223; by providing knowledge and skills to identify, organize and use the information. To be information literate one need to know why, when, and how to use all of these tools and think critically about the information they provide. Engineering is a field that is fast developing as a result of scientific and technological advancement. Thus, engineering is a field where one needs to be equipped with strong information literacy skills to succeed in their endeavors. newline
