Abstract: Biomarkers of myocardial ischemia are gaining importance as frontline diagnostic tools in the field of cardiovascular medicine Accurate and early diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction AMI can improve the survival rate of patients and significantly enhance the therapeutic efficiency in these conditions This is enabled by the quantification of cardiac enzymes which are released into the body fluids following the onset of myocardial ischemia Thus rapid and efficient diagnosis of these conditions are chiefly dependent on the assessment of the panel of cardiac biomarkers The aim of the present study was to quantify the levels of heart fatty acid binding protein H FABP in the serum and saliva of patients suffering from AMI and Healthy individuals without previous history of cardiovascular renal and muscular diseases The quantitiative analysis of HFABP and the known cardiac biomarkers troponins was done and compared to evaluate the diagnostic utility of HFABP for the diagnosis of AMI In conclusion HFABP was found to have better sensitivity and specificity during the initial hours of myocardial ischemia when compared with other biomarkers of AMI thus suggesting that it can be used as an early biomarker in the diagnosis of AMI newline
