Abstract: Deadtime or time delay systems exist as a challenging control newlineproblem in engineering and process industry Among various methods of newlinecontrol proportional integral derivative PID controller and its variant the newlineSmith Predictor which compensates the deadtime find 95 application in newlineindustry owing to their simplicity and effectiveness The tuning of PID newlinecontrollers is an important topic of research carried out for the last 75 years newlineVarious approaches exist for design of PID controllers as discussed in newlineliterature survey by Aiden ODwyer Åström and othersong them the newlinerecent area of interest is vested in the method of optimization based tuning of newlinePID controllers because of their merits of ease robustness and non newlinedependability on process knowledge which is inevitable in the case of newlineclassical methods The optimization based methods aim to arrive at optimal newlinePID control gains based on the performance objective formulation with or newlinewithout constraints newline newline
