Abstract: Optimization problems are available in all branches of industry or society like in product and process design production logistics traffic control and strategic planning In many real world optimization problems the objective functions are generally discontinuous or non convex with many local minima One of the successful methods introduced in the past decades to solve such complex problems is Evolutionary Algorithms EAs are obust with respect to noisy discontinuous and multimodal evaluation functions One of the major concerns is that for different configurations of any standard EA the performance of the algorithm may vary vastly Another important issue to be handled while using EAs is the diversity of the population especially for multimodal functions of higher dimension as it aids the algorithm to escape local optima Diversity control is generally achieved by varying the crossover and mutation rates It is practically difficult to newlinemanually tune the control parameters for the conflicting goals of diversity and convergence Thus adaptation becomes necessary for successful application of any EA EAs typically require a considerable number of function evaluations to locate an optimal solution The solution to this problem lies in reducing the number of such evaluations without significantly compromising the accuracy of the results using surrogate models newline newline newline
