Abstract: Solid State Circuit Breaker SCB is a high power semiconductor newlinedevice which is used to improve the voltage quality as well as it will also newlinereduce the short circuit current and voltage distortion during a short circuit newlinefailure During short circuit the increased fault current reaches the newlinecommutation capacitor Then the commutation capacitor is discharged and it newlinewill make an open circuit to reduce the short circuit current But the newlinedischarging time of the commutation capacitor is very high and so it takes newlinemore time to reduce the short circuit current Due to this reason the newlineperformance of SCB is affected Therefore to improve the performance of newlineSCB a modified commutation circuit based SCB is proposed This will lead newlineto improved performance of SCB in handling short circuit failure The newlineperformance of the proposed commutation circuit will be evaluated Voltage sag is one of the most important factors that affect the newlinepower quality of the system Voltage sags occur mainly due to the occurrence newlineof faults in the system and also due to the nonlinear loads connected to the newlinesupply These voltage sags affect the system performance and sometimes it newlinecauses damages to the system Metal oxide varistor is mainly used for newlinereducing voltage sags in the system newline newline
