Abstract: The problem of Optimal Power Flow OPF has received a lot of attention in the past two decades OPF is one of the important tools of current interest of several utilities and become an operational necessity OPF is a vital tool for power system operators both in planning and operating stages The function of OPF is to schedule the power system and to optimize an objective function though satisfying a set of non linear equality and inequality constraints at normal operating conditions Generally OPF trouble is an extremely constrained non linear nonconvex optimization problem Under such situation, OPF problem has become a major concern in power system operators This is necessary to implement the novel techniques for analyzing and optimizing the objective function through optimal adjustment of the power system control variable Thus this thesis presents a new method for the minimization of fuel cost real and reactive power loss and voltage deviation of a power system based on Particle Swarm Optimization PSO The effectiveness of the proposed works has been tested in IEEE 30 bus system and IEEE-57 bus system for without and with contingency cases For several years, researchers are interested to solve the economic operation of electric power system. Unit Commitment Problem UCP is one of the important issues in this proceeding era In conventional power system only supply side of power balance is focused by the system operators and the demand side is examined as constant in a 24 hour scheduling Extensive research on Demand Response DR programs has been conducted by several researchers to fully utilize the flexibility of demand side resources Under such condition it is essential to balance both supply side and demand side resources symmetrically Therefore this thesis presents a new methodology for the minimizing of generation cost based on UCP with DGL using PSO The efficacy of the proposed works has been tested in IEEE 30 bus system 10 20 40 60 80 and 100 unit bus systems with constraints newline
