Abstract: Political Interventions and Cultural Interactions are the two important and inevitable newlineantecedents that impact sometimes rudely and sometimes gently on a political state newlineand the social entity identified within the state. Throughout the pages of world newlinehistory, national history or regional history there are innumerable instances of these newlineantecedents. History of a region is created and later recreated based on these newlineantecedents. Though political interventions and cultural integrations are relegated to newlinethe pages of the history of the specific period, they have significant relevance to the newlinesociety we live in. Many political blunders or achievements have their legacy that can newlinebe connected to earlier times. Similarly, socio-cultural issues of today have their newlineorigin in the time gone by. By examining the historical significance of the political newlinesystem or social institutions, it is possible to arrive at a clear understanding of the newlineissues. newlineIn keeping with the above observations, this study has been undertaken on the newline Political Interventions and Cultural Interactions in Karnataka - Reference to Colonial newlineTimes , and is based on the historical writings, records available in the Archival newlinedepartment, traveler s accounts and field trips. In other words, this study is an attempt newlineto examine the role of Karnataka rulers in fashioning the history of Karnataka. newlineIt is possible to notice that the political interventions in the Karnataka region were newlinerapid and the study focuses mainly on periods of Shivaji, Nawab Haider Ali, Tippu newlineSultan and Krishnaraja Wodeyar s III. These warrior s interventions changed the newlinecourse of the history of Karnataka. These political interventions brought changes in newlinethe socio-cultural realms. The resultant cultural interactions realigned the map of newlineculture in 17th and 18th Century. Many changes were adopted in the society of colonial newline12 newlinetimes in Karnataka. With a consequent change in religious practices and education newlinesystem, social conditions of people underwent dramatic changes. newline
