Abstract: newline Cotton is one of the most important commercial crops of the world newlineas also an important cash crop in India It occupies 5 per cent of newlinetotal cultivated area in the country and about 60 million people are newlinedependent upon its cultivation, trade and processing for their newlinelivelihood India had been a cultivator and exporter of cotton newlinehistorically Today India occupies a prominent position in world newlinecotton hierarchy by ranking first in area under cotton and third in newlineproduction Cotton is grown in more than 20 states in here but nine newlinestates namely Punjab Haryana and Rajasthan in the Northern zone newlineGujarat Madhya Pradesh and Maharastra in the central zone and newlineAndhra Pradesh Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in the Southern zone newlineaccount for more than 99 per cent of the area and production
