Abstract: From the last decade supercapacitors have received abundant attention due to their promising application as high-power energy-storage devices. Research and development of electrochemical supercapacitors have raised significance in recent conditions. The use of capacitor in corresponding with battery can offer a hybrid power source. Many TMOs including ruthenium oxide, vanadium oxide, cobalt oxide, iron oxide, etc thin films have been used in supercapacitor applications. In particular, amorphous or crystalline RuO2 has been found to be an excellent electrode, which exhibits a high SC (gt 700 F/g). Due to the high cost, however Ru (cost of RuCl3 ~Rs. 3200/g) is less attractive for commercial applications. Among these TMOs, the pseudocapacitive behavior of vanadium oxide is promising alternative material for supercapacitor. It has good structural properties, outstanding electrochemical performance. Also the 3D architecture network of vanadium will support the stability, conductivity of ruthenium mixed oxide/composites and to enhance the performance of supercapacitor electrode. Ruthenium and vanadium based mixed oxide thin films for supercapacitor electrode shows better performance as compared to pristine oxide electrodes.Among various physical and chemical processes for thin film preparation, spray pyrolysis is simple, cost effective, easy to use, safe, well suited for large area deposition and for the preparation of doped metal oxide thin films. The present work has been planned and the subject matter is described in ten chapters. Initially, SPT was used to the preparation of vanadium oxide (V2O5), ruthenium oxide (RuO2) and ruthenium doped vanadium oxide thin films via aqueous as well as non-aqueous routes. The structural, morphological, wettability, optical, elemental and electrochemical properties of V2O5, RuO2 and Ru:V2O5 electrodes were analyzed and studied well in detail. newline
