Abstract: The biometric refers to the science of analyzing human physiological newlineand/or behavioral characteristics for reliable identification of a person. newlineThe characteristics of biometrics cannot be faked, forged, guessed, newlinestolen, and one need not remember his/her biometric trait hence biometric identification systems are being used in most of the applications. An introduction to the biometrics system and types of biometrics based on physiological and behavioral parameters, general biometrics system, biometrics databases, preprocessing, feature newlineextraction and matching are discussed in brief. Design issues, challenges newlineand motivation related to biometrics and face recognition applications newlineare discussed in chapter one. newlineThe detailed review of current literature on various spatial and newlinetransform domain techniques for face recognition are presented in newlinechapter two. The feature extraction techniques such as Hidden Markov newlineModels (HMM), mole detection based, Graph Matching, image edge newlineinformation, Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Eigenfaces, feature newlineextraction using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and Dual Tree newlineComplex Wavelet Transform (DT-CWT) are discussed.
