Abstract: Interline power flow controllers (IPFC) are commonly used for maintaining power flow in the multiline transmission lines and to increase the active power in the line. The main problem here is the identification of a proper place for fixing the IPFC in the transmission system. Here, proposed a hybrid technique for identifying the proper place for fixing the IPFC. The proposed hybrid technique utilizes genetic algorithm and neural network to identify the proper place for fixing the IPFC. The training dataset is generated using the genetic algorithm. For creating training dataset different combinations of buses are taken and their power values are analyzed and the best combination of buses to which the IPFC must be connected to attain maximum system stability is selected. By using this dataset the neural network is trained. Back propagation is used to train the neural network. By using this technique the proper place for fixing the IPFC is identified, and by connecting the IPFC at that place the line losses in the system is decreased. After connecting the IPFC the load flow in the buses are calculated using the Newton Raphson method. The proposed methodology is tested by means of simulation in Matlab 7.10 using the IEEE-14 bus data system. From the results it is evident that technique reduces the line losses in the system. Nowadays, electric power transmission line control is a difficult task but it is an important one for minimizing line losses. Line loss minimization of transmission system depends on the type of controlling device. The proposed system uses Inter Line Power Flow Controller (IPFC) for controlling the multi transmission line because it is one of the best devices available for controlling multi transmission lines. Optimal placement of IPFC in the transmission line is a major problem associated with IPFC.
