Abstract: The development of modern communications, in order to meet the needs of technological progress as social development the optical communication has become the main communication medium because of its high reliability and security. Optical fiber cable is a very good channel for optical signal transmission. But when there is any fault in optical fiber cable network, the entire communication system would be affected seriously. Whenever there is a fault in fiber cable network it is very important to find out the accurate location and remove it quickly. newline In this research work, firstly I briefly describe the fiber optical network technologies and then various fiber cable fault management systems and finally the comparison of these systems with proposed fiber cable fault management system. Then as per the cause and characteristics of optical fiber cable faults, the proposed system uses OTDR, Power meter and other devices commonly used in optical fiber communication. With the use of these devices we can remove the faults. The proposed system also suggested a system which is very fast and indicates the location of fault. newlineOptical fiber cable networking requires special care during installation to ensure reliable working of every device with in the network. The optical fiber cable connectors should be protected from scratching and contamination at all times. Installation guidelines regarding twisting, minimum bend radius, tensile loads, squeezing or pinching of cable must be followed. Violation of any of these parameters causes increased permanent damage or attenuation to the cable. newlineFiber optic cables can be easily damaged if they are improperly handled or installed. It is good if certain procedures be followed in the handling of these cables to avoid damage and/or limiting their usefulness. Some important aspects about fiber cables are proper testing, handling, installing and troubleshooting problems. newline Thus the cable fault management system is an essential system for optical networks which are spreading over the world.
