Abstract: There is a requirement for integrating all networks under one umbrella due to increase in demand for multimedia services and broadband access. Integrating all wireless, optical networks and satellite networks will lead to high capacity and flexibility, offering global coverage with seamless mobility. This requires an efficient mobility management. The two main steps involved in mobility management are location management and handoff management. The growing demands for multimedia services and broadband access forces us to integrate the optical networks and wireless networks because of its high bandwidth availability.Next part of this thesis discusses a fiber based wireless access scheme based on Radio over fiber (RoF) technology for Road Vehicle Communication (RVC) system. To support high speed user with high data rate traffic, millimetre wave bands have been considered. Next generation 4G wireless communications are expected to rely on integrated networks consisting of multiple wireless technologies to combine their respective advantages on coverage and data rates, offering a high Quality of Service (QoS) to mobile users. In such environment, multiinterface terminals should seamlessly switch from one network to another in order to obtain improved performance or at least to maintain a continuous wireless connection. The parameters used in the handoff initiation algorithm are RSS, Bit Error Rate(BER) and network coverage. When theoretical analysis was carried out it was identified that some default values like solicitation time, node s base station, care of address in the ns-2 simulation tool needed attention to make comparison fair. From the comparison using ns2 considering 100 simulations it was observed that the packet loss(1) and handover delay(13.8ms) are found significantly low in FFHMIPv6. All algorithms will be integrated and implemented using FPGA synthesis and simulation tool to design Handoff algorithm on chip with Lowcost in future. newline newline newline
