Abstract: Satellite Remote Sensing is playing an important role in national planning, newlineearth resources observation, exploration and utilization and disaster identification newlinemonitoring and management (like floods, drought) etc. Remote Sensing newlinetechnology has spread its applications even to the micro level planning based on newlinethe availability of higher and higher resolution data from low earth orbiting, sun newlinesynchronous, polar satellites moving with the velocities around 6 - 8 km./sec. newlineBased on the applications, the value added satellite data product services are newlinealso increasing rapidly in addition to the standard data products. Therefore newlineutilization of data and in turn the satellite are also appreciating globally. This is newlineresulting in the focused services to the user to make the precise data available. newlineIn order to cater to the multi user requirements in a given satellite orbit, multi newlinesegment data programming and transmission is also put to practice. These are newlinerealizable due to the technology advancements on-board the satellite and in the newlineground segment systems. The imaging (Targeting) accuracies of the order of newlinefew hundred meters both along track and across track along with the associated newlinelocation accuracies of the products around 200 to 300 mtrs. is being achieved. newlineThe technology advancement is enabling the satellite controller to authorize the newlineusers to control and configure the satellites for imaging specific areas of his newlineinterest. All these technological inventions and advancements make the data newlinemore and more valuable. However few other conditions like cloud, fog etc., newlinemake the data unavailable from optical sensors. Therefore the need for precise, newlinereliable and error-free data acquisition. newlineThere are number of Indian Remote Sensing satellites in orbit with different data newlinerates and resolutions per channel. Similar is the case with the other remote newlinesensing satellites in the world. Finer and finer resolutions and the increased data newlinerates have resulted in higher and higher volumes of data to be handled for each newlinesatellite visibility.
