Abstract: Radiotherapy is one of the most effective treatments for cancer It is newlineapplied either singly or in combination with surgery or chemotherapy The newlinetreatment of radiotherapy is subdivided into two major categories namely newlineexternal beam radiotherapy and brachytherapy Between the two treatment newlinetechniques external beam radiotherapy is the most common form of newlineradiotherapy It is performed mainly with photon beams highenergy Xrays newlineusually produced by linear accelerators gamma rays from cobalt units 60Co newlineand lower energy Xrays in the energy range of 50 300 kV kilovolts newlineBesides these photon beams electron beams of megavoltage range are also newlineused to treat superficial tumors newlineIn radiation therapy the difficulties involved in accurately newlinedetermining or reproducing all physical and technical parameters related to newlinethe treatment process significantly affect the treatment outcome newline newline
