Abstract

Three series of liquid crystalline photocrosslinkable polymers newlinewere synthesized from two different monomers one monomer contains newlinestilbene moiety and the other monomer contains organophosphorus unit The newlinestilbene moiety was used as a photosensitive mesogenic segment and newlinesynthesized by the reaction of phenol and bromoacetaldehydediethylacetal in newlineacetic acid using an acid catalyst The methylene chain extended stilbene newlinederivatives were synthesized by the nucleophilic displacement of the newlinepotassium salt of trans dihidroxystilbene with n bromo 1 alkanols n 2 newline4 6 8 10 in DMF Various arylphosphorodichloridates were synthesized by newlinereacting the corresponding phenols viz phenol 1 naphthol and 4 newlinephenylphenol with excess of phosphorus oxychloride The pure dichloridates newlinewere obtained by vacuum distillation newline newline
