Abstract: The current thesis explores the development of some novel multicomponent reactions (MCRs) under environmentally benign conditions and utilizing in situ generated o-quinonemethide (o-QM) intermediate in presence of metal triflates. The in situ generated o-QM was trapped by various nucleophiles to give different biologically active compounds. Some metal triflate catalysed novel methodologies were achieved, which are discussed in the thesis. In addition to this other catalytic systems such as SDS/water and ionic liquid were explored for the synthesis of biologically important compounds. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for Src-kinase inhibitory and anti-cancer activities. newlineThe first chapter gives a brief introduction to the MCRs, o-QM and metal triflates. A brief history of MCRs, their classification based on mechanism, components and substrates also recent literature is explained in this chapter. The next part describes briefly o-QMs and their classification, reactivity, stability and generation. Finally, a brief overview of metal triflates and their applications in organic synthesis is outlined in this chapter. newlineThe second chapter describes the environmentally benign synthesis of 2-aminobenzothiazolomethyl naphthols and tetrahydrophenylacridine-dione catalyzed by SDS in aqueous medium.
